We invited Camden New Jersey’s own Munir Griffin to the Kickback stage. The saxophonist, rapper, songwriter, and producer first discovered WAV while delivering a Postmates order to the office. Fast forward a few months later, Munir graced the Kickback stage with a saxophone in hand and DJ Icee on deck.
Munir opened with sax solo over Goldlink’s “Crew” setting the smooth jazz meets hip hop vibe for the studio audience and everyone tuned in on the WAV app.
Munir continued his set with original music effortlessly switching between rapping and saxophone solos, a process he’s mastered and made his own. Munir’s music gives you a strong sense of who he is as a whole – multifaceted, warm, and confident. Between songs, Munir earnestly encourages listeners to “love one another, love each other – at the end of the day that’s all we got.”
During the Q&A, Munir and Host Meshell Mendiola discuss karate, community, desert island albums, and the sex-appeal of a saxophone.
We can’t wait to watch Munir grow in his career, he’s got something we’ve never seen on the Kickback stage before, and we’re so excited for the rest of the world to witness what he’s got to say.
